Co-Binders for Biopolymers
VINNEX® is a poly(vinyl acetate) based binder system for the next generation of bioplastics.
With VINNEX®, biopolymers can be processed just like standard thermoplastics. VINNEX® makes injection molding, extrusion, vacuum forming, thermoforming and calendering much easier.
The system makes materials such as starch, polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), polybutylene succinate (PBS) or cellulose acetate (CA) compatible with each other. This makes it possible to precisely adjust physical properties as required. Depending on the composition and VINNEX® content, polymer blends have higher impact strengths, are more flexible or have a higher melt strength than conventional biopolymers. The biodegradability of the biopolymer blends is maintained. In addition, most VINNEX® grades are suitable for use in food-contact applications.
VINNEX® thus opens up a multitude of new applications and processing technologies for bioplastics. Examples include highly transparent PLA films with significantly improved heat-sealing properties for food packaging, extrusion paper coatings with PLA for paper cups and thermoforming with PBS/PLA blend for heat-resistant containers.
