Building the Future

What do the cities of tomorrow look like? How are the markets developing? How can building quality be optimized? And how can the ideal combination of tradition and modernity be achieved in the construction sector? In our new web special “Cementitious Tile Adhesives – Markets & Trends,” adhesives experts from Europe to China give you an overview of markets, current trends and topics.

Tile adhesives have a long-standing tradition and, at the same time, are developing dynamically in the world’s various regions. Ceramic tiles, large-format tiles and natural stone tiles are very much in trend. All of these materials require tailor-made, highly efficient and sustainable adhesives – as well as innovative procedures. Novel systems for polymeric thin-bed tile adhesives are increasingly replacing conventional mixing methods. However, one thing is still essential: the tile must remain securely bonded to the substrate.

Mega cities, population growth and climate change – architecture plays a key role in meeting the challenges that face people and the environment in which we live. WACKER contributes with a comprehensive portfolio for sustainable construction applications. Here, sustainability does not solely focus on the products and technologies that we develop for, and together with, our customers. Rather, sustainability is an integral part of our corporate philosophy. This longstanding experience is the ideal basis for developing new, pioneering solutions at our global production sites and technical centers. Examples include our VINNAPAS® dispersible polymer powders and dispersions, which are essential components in climate-friendly exterior insulation and finish systems. In boom regions such as China – where roughly as much is built and as much new living space is created in two years as Germany has altogether – this is particularly important in order to improve construction standards, energy efficiency and thus people’s quality of life.

In the development of products and technologies for the construction industry, energy saving and efficient use of resources are central issues. In the new WACKER webcast "Building the Future," Dr. Peter Schneider, Vice President of Construction Polymers, shows how these challenges can be tackled in a consumer and market-oriented way, while also explaining Construction Polymers' strategy for 2012.
